This Apparition Hill tour in Medjugorje is a three-hour guided Catholic prayer pilgrimage through the story of the reported apparitions, the Church’s careful guidance and the spiritual themes associated with the Queen of Peace. The journey includes the Blue Crosses prayer area, the Rosary on the rocky ascent and time for prayer and reflection at the statue of Mary on Podbrdo.

Your Apparition Hill tour in Medjugorje

Apparition Hill, also known locally as Podbrdo, is one of Medjugorje’s principal places of prayer. The route is intentionally devotional rather than simply sightseeing: your guide provides clear Catholic context, leads reflection and helps the group approach the reported events with both openness and the discernment requested by the Church.

The visionaries, the reported visions and the Church’s position

The pilgrimage begins with an introduction to the people commonly known as the Medjugorje visionaries, the reports that began in June 1981 and the history that brought pilgrims to the village. The reported apparitions and messages are always described as reported or alleged, rather than presented as established supernatural fact.

In 2024 the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith issued a nihil obstat for the spiritual experience connected with Medjugorje. This permits prudent devotion and public worship while making clear that the Church has not declared the reported apparitions to be supernatural and that Catholics are not obliged to believe in them. The tour follows that balanced approach. You can read the Vatican’s official note on Medjugorje.

The Blue Crosses

At the foot of the hill, the guide explains the prayer site commonly known as the Blue Crosses and its place in the development of devotion in Medjugorje. There is time for quiet prayer before the ascent begins.

Rosary on the rocky ascent

During the Apparition Hill tour, the group climbs while praying the Rosary, pausing at the reliefs placed along the path. The pace is prayerful and considerate, but the route remains naturally steep, rough and uneven. The ascent itself is part of the pilgrimage experience.

The Queen of Peace statue

At the white statue of Mary, the guide brings together the central themes associated with the reported Medjugorje messages, including prayer, conversion, peace, fasting, Scripture, the Eucharist and reconciliation. These themes are presented within Catholic teaching and the Church’s current guidance, followed by time for personal prayer.
