Assisi Pilgrim Tour
This Assisi Pilgrim tour is designed for those who wish to see all of the major sites of Assisi in one day. Whether that be people who are staying in Assisi, or for people travelling to Assisi on a day trip – this tour is designed for pilgrims.
You will begin by meeting your expert local guide at the Basilica of St Francis who will then show you round the Basilica and explain the life of St Francis and the important features of this famous Basilica.
From there, you will have the opportunity to have some lunch (either with the guide at a carefully chosen restaurant) or on your own with a meeting point and reconvening time specified by your guide. This flexibility offers clients the maximum choice in terms of budget and cuisine choices. No doubt some clients will also have been hungry from the travel to Assisi if they are not already staying in the city.
After a hearty lunch to refuel, your guide will take you to the famous church of San Damiano to visit the miraculous crucifix that spoke so famously to St Francis.
From there you will visit the small Portiuncola Church located within the beautiful Basilica of St Mary & the Angels, to understand the evolution of the religious life and links between the origins of the Franciscans and the Benedictines founded by St Benedict.
Finally going down the hill towards the train station, you will visit the Convent of St Clare of Assisi to learn of her heroic devotion to the Blessed Sacrament and the inspiring life of this lesser-known saint of Assisi.

The History
You begin your tour learning of the life of St Francis and visiting the magnificent Basilica of St Francis where your expert guide will entertain you with the fascinating life and death of St Francis and the most important features of the Basilica of St Francis.
Refreshing Lunch
After receiving some spiritual sustenance, in the Basilica of St Francis, you then have the opportunity of some bodily refreshment at a carefully chosen restaurant nearby, or, if you prefer, at your own dining location. A reconvening place and time will be set by the guide..
Church of San Damiano
After you are rested and refreshed, you will then be accompanied by your expert guide to the Church of San Damiano to visit the miraculous crucifix icon that spoke to St Francis and heavily impacted his religious experience.
Portiuncola and the Basilica of St Mary & the Angels
From there. you will continue to learn about the origins of the Franciscan order and it’s relationship to the earlier Benedictine monastic order at the Portiuncola church nestled within the Basilica of St Mary & the Angels.
The Apse Mosaics
Finally, you will journey down the mountain city to the Convent of St Clare of Assisi to learn about her heroic life and her devotion to the Franciscan life.
