Your four-hour Fatima tour itinerary

The following morning programme is indicative. Walking pace, house entry and the sanctuary’s liturgies can change the order and timing of individual stops.

09:00–09:45 — Aljustrel and the shepherds’ houses

Meet outside the House of Saints Francisco and Jacinta on Rua dos Pastorinhos. Visit their family home and Lúcia’s nearby home, with her garden and well where accessible. Learn how these familiar surroundings help explain the children’s story. Starting here gives the house visits priority before the midday closure.

09:45–10:25 — Valinhos and Loca do Cabeço

Walk first to Valinhos, then continue to Loca do Cabeço. Your guide distinguishes the events commemorated at each place and introduces the angel’s message of prayer. A short silent pause allows you to take in the setting without needing to hurry to the next explanation.

10:25–11:40 — Selected Stations and the walk to the sanctuary

Follow the Shepherds’ Way towards the South Roundabout, stopping for selected Stations of the Cross. Continue to the sanctuary with time allowed for a brief water or comfort stop. This itinerary includes selected stations; the complete Way of the Cross and Hungarian Calvary are outside the four-hour programme.

11:40–13:00 — The sanctuary, apparition chapel and seers’ tombs

Explore the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, the Chapel of the Apparitions and the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary. At the latter, visit the tombs of Francisco, Jacinta and Lúcia when access permits. Interior visits follow the worship programme: explanations may take place outside, and silence takes priority during services. Conclude outside the main entrance of the Rosary Basilica at approximately 13:00.

Meeting point and finish

Meet: outside the House of Saints Francisco and Jacinta Marto, Rua dos Pastorinhos 42, Aljustrel, Fátima. Arrive 15 minutes before your confirmed start time.

Finish: outside the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary at the sanctuary, around 13:00. This is a one-way walk; arrange your own journey to Aljustrel.

What is included?

The guiding service includes the four-hour walking itinerary, Catholic historical and devotional interpretation, short prayer pauses, and guidance around the included sites. The sanctuary and the children’s homes have free admission; the tour fee pays for guiding and organisation.

Not included: transport to Aljustrel, transfers from Lisbon or other cities, onward travel, accommodation, food, drinks, personal donations and gratuities. Paid museum exhibitions are outside the programme. A priest, private Mass and attendance at a scheduled public Mass are not included.

Is this a Fátima day trip from Lisbon?

No. The guided visit begins in Aljustrel, within the Fátima area. Guests make their own arrangements to reach the meeting point. Allow additional time for inter-city travel and the local journey to Aljustrel; Lisbon pickup and return are not part of the walking tour.

How much walking is involved?

Allow approximately four hours on your feet, including stops, with an estimated 4–5 km over village streets, paths and the sanctuary precinct. Some surfaces are uneven and there are slopes and steps. Wear supportive shoes and bring water, sun protection or rainwear as appropriate. Discuss mobility needs before booking; the full route is not advertised as wheelchair accessible.

Will we visit every Station of the Cross?

No. Selected stations form part of this itinerary, alongside the village, apparition sites and sanctuary. Pilgrims who want to pray the complete Way of the Cross should allow a separate period for that devotion.

Can I attend Mass or the candlelight procession?

Yes, independently of the guided tour. Ending at the sanctuary makes it easier to continue your own pilgrimage. Consult the official sanctuary programme for services and the evening Rosary and procession on your date. Those activities are separate from the four-hour guiding service.

Are children and non-Catholic visitors welcome?

Yes, provided they are comfortable with the walking distance and respectful of worship. Children must remain with a responsible adult. The visit explains the Catholic meaning of the sites, while participation in prayer remains optional.

What happens if a church or house is unavailable?

Visits are subject to local opening, crowd management and religious services. The guide may adjust the sequence or explain an unavailable interior from outside. Major pilgrimage dates can require a different timetable. The confirmed itinerary and applicable booking terms will be provided before purchase.
