Patron Saints of Lisbon Tour
Explore Lisbon through the saints who shaped its Catholic identity on this three-hour guided walking tour. From the heights of Senhora do Monte to the old streets around Alfama, the route connects panoramic viewpoints, historic churches and the stories of St Gens, St Vincent and St Anthony.
Your expert Catholic guide will explain how devotion, history and local tradition meet in the life of the city. Along the way, you will visit the Graça district, the Monastery of São Vicente de Fora, Portas do Sol, Lisbon Cathedral and the Church of St Anthony.
Three saints woven into Catholic Lisbon
The tour begins with St Gens, traditionally remembered as an early bishop and martyr of Lisbon. The Chapel of Our Lady of the Mountain stands on a site long associated with his story. From the nearby viewpoint, the city itself becomes a map for the route ahead.
St Vincent is the official patron saint of Lisbon. Tradition records that his relics were brought to the city in 1173, and the ship accompanied by two ravens became one of Lisbon’s most recognisable emblems. At São Vicente de Fora and later at Lisbon Cathedral, your guide will place his cult within the story of medieval Lisbon.
St Anthony was born in Lisbon and remains its most beloved popular patron. Baptised and educated near the Cathedral before entering religious life, he is remembered throughout the city. The tour concludes at the church built at his traditional birthplace.
